Missional Community

22 02 2009

We recently had Vision Sunday and we talked about Missional Community. I would like to talk about Missional Community and how it relates to Children’s Ministry here at Red Mountain. Bob defined missional as; to pursue the mission of Christ in each moment regardless of the task or activity of the moment. Let’s think about that for a moment…what a challenge, and not an easy one at that. What does that mean, “to pursue the mission of Christ”? For us, the mission of Christ is the same as it is for everyone else, but more specifically, to help kids come to Christ and to guide them toward spiritual maturity.

When I think about missional community, I can’t help but think about what’s at stake here. Eternity. We have the chance to show kids Christ each and every week, possibly for the first time. Intentionality is another word that comes to mind when I think about missional community. Are we being intentionl, are we being missional with how we are preparing, praying, thinking for each lesson, each activity, each kid?

If you are thinking that there seems to be a lot of responsibility that goes along with being missionl. I would have to agree with your thoughts. But isn’t that why we signed up to do this, to make a difference for Christ, to make a difference in the life of a child. Think about that this Sunday and the coming week, how can you be more missional minded when it comes to where you are serving?

KIDS Rock

7 01 2009

Super Heroes

Starting on Wednesday, January 14th KIDS Rock will be kicking off its Spring Semester and what a semester it will be! Can you think of a better way to learn about God than with Super Heroes? During this semester we will be teaching the superpowers of confidence, forgiveness, courage, self-control, and compassion. Every week we will reveal a TRUE HERO from the Bible: Elijah, Daniel, Esau, Esther, Gideon, and David. But Jesus is THE ULTIMATE HERO of this semester! At the end of this series, every child will clearly hear what it means to put his or her faith in Jesus, THE ULTIMATE HERO who gave His life to save us all. We want kids to know that they can turn to the Bible as a source of POWER and that by trusting God, they can be superheroes too!

Starts: January 14th

Time: 7:00-8:30 pm

Where: Red Mountain Community Church (P-12)

Devos (God Time Cards)

7 01 2009

One of the things that I thought about over and over again when wanting to start 252 Basics for our Elementary kids was “are our kids growing in their relationship with Jesus?” I knew they were learning something but I never knew if it was enough. Working in Children’s ministry has helped me to realize the importance of parent involvement with their child’s spiritual growth. We understand that what kids are learning about Jesus at home is far more important than what is learned here at the church. Each week we only have maybe an hour with each child, so our impact can only go so far. One way that we are attempting to help our kids grow beyond Sunday morning is through “Devos” or “God Time Cards”. These are designed to help each child learn more about what they heard on Sunday throughout the week. I think our kids are going to take great strides in their knowledge and understanding of Jesus and how He wants us to live through these times in the week. So parents, if your child is seeking help or direction please help leave a lasting spiritual legacy with your child.

The Incredible Race

Incredible Race KIDS Rock 2008

Incredible Race KIDS Rock 2008

One of my favorite things about the fall is the fact that KIDS Rock is going to be kicking off soon. After a long summer drought of no KIDS Rock i’m excited to get back into the groove of things and have the chance to interact with kids during the week again. This fall semester is going to be fantastic. We are kicking off a semester of The Incredible Race which will take kids along a journey and encourage them to follow the path of some famous pacesetters in the Bible.

Our theme comes from Hebrews 12:1 which says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

The great and fantastic time begins September 10th at 7:00p. Our kick off will include games, movies, actual race cars, hot dogs and so much more!! I would encourage each and everyone of you to attend or at least come check it out!!

CHAMPION Hoops Camp

21 07 2008

During the first full week of July, Red Mountain hosted its first ever CHAMPION Hoops Camp! Everyone who attended (myself included) had the time of their life. We were joined by former Harlem Globetrotter Melvin Adams. He brought a lot of energy and excitement to the camp and all the kids loved him. Not only did we learn basketball skills but we learned how to be a CHAMPION in life! For a first year camp I think we have a lot to build on. Melvin has already discussed that he would like to return and do a camp again next Summer. So CHAMPION Hoops Camp 2009 will be in the planning stages soon! Here are a few pictures from the weeks camp experience!

Summer Explosion Was AWESOME

2 07 2008

I just want to say that this was one of the most exciting weeks since coming on staff here at Red Mountain back in 2004. It was amazing to see how God worked in both the lives of the kids and the volunteers. What a blessing it was to see 16 (SIXTEEN) kids come to know Christ as their personal savior! The week was such a blast and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us in Summer Explosion 2009.

The week was so full of surprises, the best being the pouring rain that came! Here, with the sun shinning and it being 110 out…it rained! Our focus of the week was service and it was amazing to see kids get excited about serving their family, friends, neighbors, community and of course serving Jesus. Our missions project for the week was that we were raising money to send with our church to help build houses down in Mexico. Our kids raised over $2500…praise the Lord.

It was an awesome week and the Lord really blessed us. If you weren’t able to be with us this past week, I look forward to the opportunity to serve along side you in Summer Explosion 2009!
