Dear Parents,
I am so excited to invite you to join us on this new adventure in Children’s Ministry. KIDS Church is going to be moving in an incredible direction starting in January of 2009. This direction, I think will make a larger impact on your kids, you and the volunteers that are serving during KIDS Church. I would like to introduce to you 252 Basics, which is based on Luke 2:52; which says, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” This verse is broken down into 3 basic truths that we feel each child should understand. They are, I need to make the wise choice, I can trust God no matter what and I should treat others the way I want to be treated. Each week we will intentionally instill those truths into your children and our KIDS Church volunteers.
The simplest way to explain 252 Basics is that each month we will be learning a different virtue (i.e. Patience, Wisdom, Honesty) and a verse to go along with that virtue. We then will use the Bible each week to reinforce that months virtue with different Bible stories. Each week will consist of Small Group Time, Large Group Teaching and Large Group Worship. All are essential to get across what we are trying to instill into your kids.
I view 252 Basics more than just a curriculum, I see it as a lifestyle change, from both our prospective and yours as a parent. Intentional is a word that comes to my mind when I think about this change. We are going to be intentional about where we are taking your Children and we want to give you opportunities as a parent to join us as we embark on this journey.
A few different ways in which you can help reinforce what they are learning here at church are what we are going to call our Family Production and supplement guide for parents called Family Times. Our Family Production will happen once a quarter at the beginning and will be a time for you as a parent to join your child(ren) in learning about the next months virtue. This will enable you as a parent to know exactly what we are teaching in a fun and exciting environment and then be able to follow up with your child throughout the month.
Family Times are an instrument that you can use to talk with your child(ren) about what they are learning. Family Times is designed to help you transfer a spiritual legacy to your child(ren). It is based on Deuteronomy 6:7 which says, “Impress them upon your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” It gives you the parent the opportunity to talk with your child about that months virtue where ever you are. They will be available for each family to purchase if you so choose each month.
Our goal is to partner with you as a parent as we both help your child(ren) grow spiritually. I look forward to what the future has in store for all of us. Be blessed!
